PHP-Quick-Arcade >> AdminCP >> Add New Games

Introduction

Adding games in PHP-Quick-Arcade: Read over this section very carefully; it seems confusing to add games at first glance but it's really a simple matter of knowing some details.

Format

PHP-Quick-Arcade will accept any flash game you put into it. But, getting a game from a random location is not good because it will not allow your members to submit high scores. In order for a game to have highscore submission, it has to be specially modified with a submit code. Fortunately, there are many places to get games pre-formatted.

Sites to get games

Getting started

Before you add a game, you MUST have a game .tar file ready to upload that you download from one of the formatted game sites. We will provide an example game hosted here for you to try:

game_helicopter.tar

Adding the Game

Once you have the file it's a matter of a few steps.

Step #1

Login to your FTP or file manager program. Upload the tar file of the game you wish to add to /tars/.

Step #2

Login to the ArcadeCP, go to “Add Games”. Choose the “tar method.” <br />

Step #3

A list of tar files should be displayed. Next, be sure that the /tars folder is CHMOD 777, as well as the /pics/ and /arcade/ BEFORE you press install.

Step <b>#4</b>

Choose a category you want the game to go into, and then click Install and enjoy the game!

Repeat these steps for any other tar file based game you wish to add.

The tar file is corrupted!

There are lots of reasons for getting this message, coupled with errors. You won't get this on the example file that is provided here, but from the download sites, you may. First, double check all of your permissions in step 3. If you think they're ok, try deleting and re-uploading the tar file. If it still doesn't work, try re-downloading it from the site you got it from and upload it again.

If all else fails there's nothing you can do. The file is bad. Delete it and move on.

What if I don't have a tar file?

If you don't have a tar file… well, you can try remote linking (if allowed) or uploading all of the pieces to the game manually. But this sometimes doesn't work and it is not the recommended method. Also, once again, if you're just downloading games from regular sites, they won't submit score.

You CAN however, still, add them with the game adder. Just remember that:

idname = the name of the swf file. If you have a game called helicoper.swf, then the idname should be helicopter.

Why don't the highscores on game X or Y work?

You may be missing files or you're doing something wrong. Repeat all the steps very carefully and try again, and re-read this whole page. Make sure that there is a /gamedata/ folder and that the game has one on your server after you add it. If you've rechecked everything and it still won't submit, the game is bugged. Short answer: If you've done everything, it is broke, or isn't supported by PHP-Quick-Arcade.
