JFB >> AdminCP >> Downloads System

The download system gives you the ability to offer downloadable (off site linked) files to your members. Your users can also submit and share files.

First-time Setup

  • 1. The only option you have at the moment is to turn it online. Leave all the default settings alone for now, and tick this one to “Yes” Do you want to set the download section online?

You'll be unable to access any other area of the ACP for the downloads section until you do this step. You also need to keep the downloads system turned to ON to edit other areas of it in the ACP, or you will be sent back to the settings page all the time.

  • 2. Now a downloads link should appear in your navigation bar. If it doesn't, it means you should add it to the global bar manager. The url is yourforum/?act=Downloads.
  • 3. Now that you've done that, it's time to add some categories. Visit: Download System » Add category and configure the options for the first category here. Remember to make sure that you fill in something for “Which groups should have access to this category?” – to let all groups have access. put an *.
  • 4. Set the category to open. This is important.
  • 5. Add the new category and it will appear.
  • 6. Activate the File CP so you'll be able to add new files. To do this, go under Users and Groups » Manage User Groups and look for the Downloads Permissions on that page.

Activate the necessary settings, such as “Can add files to the downloads section?”, “Can edit/delete his/her own files in the downloads section?”, “Can download files from downloads section?” You may also want to allow certain groups to manage files.

You will need to do this for every group. Once you have done so for your group, say admin, you'll notice new links added.

You can allow your members to do this also, just activate their group settings to add files to the database. Remember that you can approve the files they submit as well.
